The trefoil plywood background stood blank at the start of service. The lay assistant brought up the copper rings placing them in the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Later at the time of the reading, another lay person would carry the torch to the front and stand next to the reader, before placing it in the receptacle on the trefoil.
